When we needed some ‘talent’ to star in our own version of “Kids React To” at PHL17, I thought it would be great to get all the kids in my family from 5 to 15 and let each one bring a friend… LUCKILY, for me, it turned into a much smaller and older crowd, because with just these 5, I had my hands full!
But, Ali, Ben, Carlee, Jess and Nick — were great, even though I thought after watching them all see the “Bright Lights” and “Green Screen” of the studio I was going to lose them for the day. More kids than this would have been tough. Thanks to my sister, a professional educator, for keeping them in line and behaved. Behaved-ish.
Here are some photos of the kids on the set of our Morning News.
The first BIG STORY was how, apparently, funny I look in my ID badge photo from 2008!?

Seriously– Even pictures of it!
Then we went through the dark halls and the kids looked like Dorothy seeing Oz as they saw the lights of the studio.
Then it was onto the Morning News set.

Then the engineers turned on the green screen and it got silly.

But they pulled it together for one more news photo.
And then of course one ANCHORMAN news photo.
Lastly, our Director of Technology, Jakai Green showed them the controls that make the magic in the studio happen.

After the photo-op we got to work making some videos with the kids. The basic idea we had was, we show them old clips of our PHL17 air and get their reactions. We expected it to be snarky, smart aleck-ish and kids really making a lot of fun of our old stuff– but this generation is not as cynical as we thought they would be. We did shoot lots of footage, so we’ll see what happens. The vintage looks they got were of Dancin’ on Air and Ultra Man.
