Congrats to my niece Jessica as she graduates 8th grade. What would have probably been a super emotional time, was kind of numbed by Quarantine rules of 2020. Jess is the last of our family, until we start having more kids I suppose, to attend my alma mater, BCS. I went there, my sister went, Jess’ brother and my sister still teaches there. Sometime in March Jess and my sister went home, and unbeknownst to anyone, that was it for our kids at the ol’ alma. My niece is a pretty amazing person and has taken it in stride it seems, but do are ANY of our kids really taking it in stride? What a world we have created for them. Three months at home and the world is as divided as it’s ever been. I’m sorry the plays these kids missed (Jess had a huge part in HairSpray), the sports, the hanging out and forging friendships that, when I was her age lasted a lifetime. I am always proud of my niece and I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.
Jess has a great group of friends too, that I literally saw grow up in what seems like the blink of an eye. I wish them all well and am hopeful that they can fix the world that generations of adults insist on breaking over and over.
